Operations Manager

Direct, manage, organize, supervise and perform building and grounds maintenance for SMS facilities and property including approximately 20 buildings and 150 acres.  Position oversees the SMS Maintenance department and team.  Assist in the planning and supervision of capital projects large and small for both campuses.  This department is responsible for the support of SMS Academic, Outdoor, Culinary and Residential Life programs by ensuring physical spaces and equipment adequately meet the safety and learning environment needs of faculty, staff, administration and students.  

Responsibilities:

  • Ability to effectively establish and maintain positive working relationships with SMS faculty members, administrators, and students

  • Create and manage staff schedules including holiday and weekend on call coverage while participating in the on call schedule

  • Manage and operate campus water system and assist with maintenance of wastewater system

  • Oversee the permitting and reporting requirements for the water and wastewater systems

  • Work closely with the DFO to develop, bid and execute capital projects for both the Strawberry Park and downtown campuses

  • Manage and participate in the snow removal for the SP campus roads and walkways

  • Ability to give and follow clear, concise written and verbal instructions 

  • Methods of supervision, evaluation, and training including development of skills among maintenance staff members 

  • Delegate and follow up with staff to facilitate the completion of projects

  • Knowledge of the methods, principles, practices, and techniques required for the management, maintenance, and repair of buildings and grounds

  • Knowledge of safe work practices and the ability to implement among maintenance staff members

  • Ability to identify and understand applicable Federal and State safety regulations and provisions of building; electrical; and plumbing codes, and transportation regulations

  • Standard tools, methods, practices, and materials involved in maintenance and basic repair of HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems

  • Methods and practices followed in the maintenance of tools, machinery and equipment

  • Ability to return occasionally, with short notice, to SMS campus after regularly scheduled hours as required for emergencies

  • Recognize, locate, and prioritize conditions that require maintenance and repair work including proactive or preventative maintenance

  • Use and care for hand and power tools utilized in the building trades

  • Perform other duties as assigned by and in support of the Head of School and Director of Finance and Operations

Qualification Requirements:

  • Repair, maintenance and construction of buildings experience

  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills

  • Grounds maintenance experience including mower, trimmer and heavy equipment use and maintenance

  • Snow plow experience

  • Physical requirements include walk, stand, or crouch on narrow, slippery, and erratically moving surfaces; stoop, kneel, bend to pick up or move objects, office equipment, and furniture; physical ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds; sufficient manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination to use a variety of building trades tools and equipment; corrected hearing and vision to normal range; verbal communication in English.

Primary Responsibilities

Classroom: 

Graland teachers are well versed in their subjects and effectively use different instructional approaches to cultivate student understanding of the subjects.

  • Participate in instructional planning and preparation. 

  • Assist the lead teacher with assessing student performance.

  • Collaborate with the lead teacher when communicating with parents.

  • Accompany students to and from specials and around campus.


Administrative: 

  • Perform lunch, recess and other duties as assigned.

Background and Training:

  • Must be twenty-one (21) years of age

  • Associate’s degree in Child Development or Early Childhood Education and six (6) months of verified experience working with children in a child development program 

Licenses, Certificates and Other Requirements:

  • Must be willing to meet appropriate Preschool/PreK Teacher requirements/qualifications and provide all documentation as required by the State of Colorado Department of Human Services upon hire.

  • Possess a current certification in CPR, First Aid, and Universal Precautions.

  • Complete fifteen (15) hours training annually.

  • Submit and pass criminal background check including Colorado Bureau of Investigations and TRAILS/Central Registry criminal record review as required by the Colorado Department of Social Services within five (5) working days of employment.

  • Provide all documentation as required by the State of Colorado Child Care Licensing Division upon hire.

  • Understanding of multiple manuals such as Colorado Health Department Guidelines, Graland Employee Manual, General Rules and Regulations for Child Care Services and the Colorado Department of Human Services Division of Child Care Rules and Regulations.

Working Environment:

  • Most of the work is performed indoors, approximately 70%, with normal noise and frequent interruptions. 

  • Balance of the work day, approximately 30% will be outdoors, possible exposure to extreme temperatures, sun, rain, snow, wind, humidity, or icy conditions and frequent exposure to grasses, molds, fertilizers, dust, and pesticides.

Physical Requirements:

Responsibilities

  • Fully implement the components of dual-language instruction and create thematic units guided by an essential question for all content areas
  • Teaching will be in English)

  • Carefully plan and deliver lessons that incorporate diverse perspectives, history and literature from around the world.
  • Actively support the evaluation plan across all academic areas, including formative and summative evaluation to assure maximum student progress.
  • Extend classroom learning to well designed daily homework which is actively applied to the classroom learning the following day.
  • Collaborate and plan with a teammate, teaching assistant, fellow teachers, principal, assistant principal
  • Carefully plan units and daily instruction to maximize instructional time during the day

Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Support the head teacher with specific students by implementing the components of dual-language instruction in Math and Literacy (Teaching will be Bilingual)
  • Regularly check in  with teachers to develop lessons and learning activities for individual students to support their learning and fill any major gaps in their comprehension.  Teachers and interventionist should have regular intentional planning time, led by the teacher of record (objectives, strategies, and materials).  Planning with the teacher and Interventionist  could occur during specials or before school at 7:45 - 8:15 am.
    • While planning and collaboration with the teacher is essential, the Interventionist will be responsible for creating and utilizing materials for intervention both within the classroom and for small-group or individual settings
  • The teacher and interventionist are expected to plan and discuss student progress frequently with assessment data and evidence.
    • Interventionist should frequently assess student performance, track growth, and analyze student data to inform their interventions
    • Record anecdotal data about work with students for effective, consistent communication with the classroom teacher
  • Stay updated on current educational practices by investigating and implementing research-based and effective strategies
  • They will be in charge of communicating constantly with the teacher and families through in person meetings. They will support communication with families including during parent/family-teacher conferences, emails, phone calls, and personal conversations during their work hours.
    • They will also have regular meetings with the Principal and/or Assistant Principal to discuss student progress
  • Speak in the language of instruction and find alternative ways to support students’ understanding without translating or using the other language (visual vocabulary support, definitions, explanations in language of instruction)
  • Model questioning and language that supports complex thought development; ask students questions that help them think about the answers, rather than giving them the answers. Keep teachers informed on which students are struggling or have common misunderstandings.
  • Interventionist can lead small intervention groups based on PLC objectives and assessments in coordination with the teachers.
  • Interventionist will be a support in the classes with the students while the teachers are doing the instruction. Depending on the need, they can support students during class or pull them out at other times. They will need to share the information about how the students are progressing. 
  • Interventionist should frequently assess student performance, track growth, and analyze student data to inform their intervention 
  • In a situation where the classroom teacher is absent, the Interventionist will act as a substitute or support for the substitute for the class as they will be most informed about the current curriculum. 
  • Have the patience and positive attitude to be sure that every student has an academically rich experience and fully develops their cognitive and language abilities.
  • Truly believe that every child, without exception, can excel.
  • Supervise lunch, recess and snack times
    • Monitor students’ well-being and safety during the teacher’s break times.
    • Support positive social interactions and Restorative Justice  problem-solving strategies with students
    • Model the values of our school culture throughout the day and during interactions with students, teachers and families.
